Funds Hire New Director
It was recently announced that due to Fund
Director Jack Simmons’ additional duties with the UBC and with the International
Foundation, he would be resigning from his position as Fund Director as of
December 31, 2007. David Stewart, CEBS has been hired to fill the vacancy
effective January 1, 2008.
Mr. Stewart is a UBC member and followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming
involved in union affairs at an early age. He was inducted into the UBC Local
1837 in July 1973 at the age of 17 and will celebrate his 35th anniversary of
membership this coming July. He served Local 1837 in the capacities of Advisory
Committee Member, Trustee, Recording Secretary, and delegate to the Suffolk
County District Council of Carpenters (SCDCC) and delegate to various state and
national conventions. He also served the SCDCC in the capacities of delegate,
Trustee, 2nd Vice-President, 1st Vice-President and finally President. He was
the Treasurer of the SCDCC PAC, editor of the council newsletter “Plane Talk”, a
director of SUDI Realty Corp. and was seated on the SCDCC Fringe Benefit Funds
as a Union Trustee.
Dave began his career in employee benefits as the Fringe Benefit Stamp Program
Director for SCDCC Funds in 1987 and served as the Associate Administrator and
Secretary-Treasurer for those funds from 1992 thru 1996. He worked in the Fund
Office of the Long Island Regional Council of Carpenters until November 1997,
when he left to accept the position of Director of Professional Relations for J.
J. Newman Company (JJN), where he was soon appointed as a vice-president and
executive committee member. Shortly after JJN was acquired by USI
Administrators, Dave left to accept the position of Fund Manager for the Road
Carriers Local 707 Fringe Benefit Funds in December 1999 where he served in that
capacity until December 31, 2007. Road Carriers is the benefit fund representing
Teamsters working in the freight industry in the New York metropolitan area.
Brother Stewart’s educational and professional accomplishments include, a
certificate in Business Management, the prestigious CEBS designation granted by
the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) and the Wharton
School at the University of Pennsylvania, member of the International Society of
CEBS, Director at Large – Association of Benefit Administrators.
